Green Greeks at Arizona State
OUR PROJECTS
This year, Green Greeks is hoping to improve sustainability by focusing on Arizona State’s New Sustainability Goals outline. Representatives will be working in teams to come up with a strategy in each area for improvement, then implementing a plan for execution in the spring semester. A brief description of our main group projects are listed below:

EDUCATIONAL MEDIA
Spring 2019- Ongoing
Green Greeks was primarily established to educate students about the importance of sustainability in their day to day lives. While Green Greeks is aware that not all greek students share a vested in environmental issues, we feel this gives us an even better opportunity to reach groups that were previously inaccessible to other sustainability oriented clubs. Our hope to educate in a fun and captivating, yet informative way, that will leave students with important takeaways long after their time at Arizona State.

REPLACING CHAPTER PROGRAMMING
Fall 2019- Ongoing
While Green Greeks is aware that many students are already over-programmed, we are creating a framework that allows Representatives to work with their individual chapters to replace programming and make them more sustainable. Our long term goal would to have all chapters apply for Green Event Certification through University Sustainability Principles.

MONITORING CHAPTER HOUSE SUSTAINABILITY
Spring 2019- Ongoing
Currently, Green Greeks is working with American Campus Communities to obtain water and energy consumption levels for each individual chapter home. Because there are four different sizes of homes within the Greek Leadership Village, we will be comparing those with respective sizes to one another. In addition to this, Green Greeks is in the process of applying for grants to install EmonPi and RaspberryPi units within Green Greek representative houses. The goal is to allow students to view their usage levels in real time and see what changes, large or small, can be made in order to cut back on energy waste. Read more about EmonPi data here and watch a video on EmonPi capabilities here.

PROPER RECYCLING EDUCATION
Fall 2018- Ongoing
One major concern brought to light by students at our HallowGreen Welcome Event was that many chapters did little to recycle within their own chapter houses, and those that do wish to recycle have trouble determining which outdoor waste bins were designated for recycling. Because of this, recycling and education surrounding which items can be properly disposed have become a major area of focus. Partnering with Zero Waste @ ASU, Green Greeks has begun to develop labeling for all recycling bins and all chapter representatives will be leading a workshop pertaining to recycling and blue bag projects.
